This route starts at the Valle de la Barranca car park, where it is very easy to find the wide forest track that leads into the pine forest. After walking along it and reaching the "Las Vueltas" recreational area, a path signposted as "Camino Ortiz" appears on the left. The route continues along this path, which runs halfway up the slope, leaving on both sides extensive patches of bearberry, an unmistakable creeping species that covers the ground. This section of the route offers good views over Navacerrada and the Cuelgamuros range. After crossing a stream you reach a viewpoint where the hospital for tuberculosis patients known as "Walpurgis" used to stand, which was demolished a few years ago. This is a good place to stop and enjoy the views, taking advantage of the information provided by the interpretive panels. The route continues along the track that climbs to the right, towards the Mirador de las Canchas viewpoint, located at 1,745 metres. From here you can see the Alto de las Guarramillas and the silhouette of Peñotillo. After leaving this viewpoint, go down the track for 2 km until you come to a turning on the right with the yellow and white marks of the PR 17. Taking this path you reach a fountain and then, along a path that joins the forest track, parallel to the river, you reach the car park again, our starting point.
