Tour 19: Los Miradores de los Poetas in the Fuenfría Valley

A circular route offers spectacular views, lush nature and poetry in stone, ideal for lovers of hiking and culture.

This circular route runs through the middle altitudes of the Fuenfría Valley and coincides at the start with the Calzada Borbónica. The path is marked with orange circles on the trees. Once you have left the Majavilán car park, ascend gently along the Calzada Borbónica, and once you have crossed the Puente del Descalzo bridge, take the Agromán path to the right, which crosses the streams of Navazuela and Acebos on the way up. At this point you can see yews, bardagueras, heather and holly trees that give the latter stream its name. To the right you can see the Las Berceas reservoir as the vegetation opens up. At the end of the Agromán path, take the Enmedio path that starts on the left and continues ascending until it reaches a wide track, which is the Carretera de la República that climbs up to the Puerto de la Fuenfría. At this point we will take it to the right, starting our descent and in a short time we will be in the meadow of Navarrulaque, where we find the FuenteRefugio, a monument dedicated to the first walkers, and the sundial dedicated to Camilo José Cela and an oak tree in honour of Giner de los Ríos. Continue along the track to the Miradores de los Poetas, where you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view. You can admire the Sietes Picos, the Navacerrada pass and different villages in the mountains. Follow the path that links the Vicente Aleixandre viewpoint with the Luis Rosales viewpoint. Among them, we will find verses of poets who wrote about the Sierra de Guadarrama, carved in stone. Once back on the track, we continue descending and take the path to the left, which leads us to the path of Los Encuentros, which takes us to the river of La Venta; crossing it, we arrive at the fountain of Tercer Retén. We will continue descending to finish the excursion in the recreational area of Las Dehesas. To return to our starting point, we only have to climb parallel to the river and the road for a few hundred metres.
