Route 26: From Guadalix de la Sierra to Soto del Real on the Camino Mendocino to Santiago
This beautiful route follows part of the Camino Mendocino to Santiago de Compostela, whose initial name was Camino Occidental a Santiago de Compostela. The Camino Mendocino starts in Guadalajara and joins the Camino de Madrid in Manzanares El Real.
We will start from the Church of San Juan Bautista in the town of Guadalix de la Sierra and from there we will take Egido Street. Leaving the town hall building on our right, we continue without turning off through the town for just over a kilometre until we reach the El Junco steakhouse. Just before the restaurant, turn left and climb a few metres until you reach the M-608 road.
Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing at the traffic lights on your left and once on the other side go up Avenida Cesar Rincón through Urbanización Las Cumbres. Once out of the town, take the Camino del Hormigal which comes out in front of us. The path is flanked by stone fences and offers spectacular views of the Cerro de San Pedro to our left.
We will walk along the path for about 3 kilometres, always between stone fences and flanked by cattle ranches, of which we will be warned by several signs along this part of the route. We reach an intersection where we take the path to the right and after approximately 700 metres the path turns to the left. Continue without turning off for about 1.6 kilometres, during which it is worth admiring the views over La Pedriza. You will reach a new intersection where you take the left turn-off, which will take you to the M-608 road. Without crossing the road, continue along a path that runs parallel to the road on the right next to the high tension tower. After walking approximately 150 metres, we enter a wide path in very good condition, which will take us through a tunnel to cross the high-speed train tracks.
Continue along this path and after approximately 300 metres, turn left and go through two tunnels (the M-611 road and the old railway line). Approximately 200 metres after the last tunnel we take the left-hand path and after a few metres we reach the M-608 road and turn right, walking along the hard shoulder, and in 100 metres we reach a roundabout. We are now in Soto del Real. Cross the roundabout and go straight on, taking a street parallel to the road, Calle del Ave María, to enter the town.
