Archaeological site of La Cabilda

Visigothic village from the 7th century in Hoyo de Manzanares. Discover their daily life in an accessible site with unique panoramic views.

This historic site is located in the recreational area of La Cabilda, on the outskirts of the town of Hoyo de Manzanares. It presents us with the visible remains of a Visigothic village from the 7th century AD, set in an easily accessible location with spectacular views of the Sierra de los Picazos and Monte de El Pardo.

Two constructions in the village have been brought to light in recent years, although 23 others are known to have existed in the area.

Remains of the daily life of its inhabitants have been found here: grinding stones, jewellery, remains of ornamental pottery and pottery for practical use. These were people who lived a quiet life in various settlements, nestled in the warmer and more protected areas of the Guadarrama mountain range, dedicated to agriculture and shepherding in small communities.

The site is currently signposted for self-guided visits and has been a unique archaeological initiative open to the public since its creation as a public space, with these same people as volunteers in the excavation process.

The interpretative panels will help us to recreate the livelihood and culture of these settlers, a further step in the knowledge of the history of the Sierra. It is in a permanent process of study and excavation, and also offers a wide range of guided tours.
