The Cambroño in Los Molinos: the illuminated earth
The landscape of Los Molinos owes a large part of its uniqueness to the Cambroño. This shrub (Adenocarpus Hispanicus) is typical of the mid-mountains. It generously covers the slopes around the municipality and alternates with pine forests, oak groves and other varieties of shrubs that give the municipality a great diversity of landscapes throughout the year, in the heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park.
Throughout its history, the Cambroño tree has provided this village with various traditional uses such as domestic fuel, for bread ovens, broom making and some medicinal uses, which the more experienced locals still remember with affection.
The peak moment is the flowering, when spring arrives in the Cambroño and covers the hillsides with a spectacle of intense yellow colour, which encourages people to walk on foot and by other gentle means such as bicycle or horseback along the slopes of Peñota and other mountains, while the flowering is celebrated in the streets and squares of the village with all kinds of activities.
Los Molinos is the Capital of the Cambroño because it has the largest extension of this endemic variety in the Iberian Peninsula and so characteristic of the municipality.
The greenery of the forest clumps and the vibrant yellow energy of the Cambroño invite you to discover more places and traditions of the municipality, from the tranquillity of the meadows to the challenge of the peaks, alternating with the constructions or remains of some of the mills that gave their name to the village.
